Special senchado ceremonial teapot by Takano Shōami
A refined, handmade, and hand-painted Kiyomizu porcelain teapot from Takano Shōami's studio.
This special type of teapot is traditionally used in Japanese senchado (sencha tea ceremony). It features thick walls, giving it a substantial weight, as well as a relatively large capacity. However, it is typically filled only to about 50 percent during use, in keeping with sencha brewing practices.
The teapot comes in two shapes of handle:
A) Type
B) Type
In ceramic art iroe refers to painting motifs or patterns using red, yellow and green color glaze. This teapot features a dragon that's a powerful mythical creature in Japanese folklore. Dragons are benevolent, and protective, the symbols of power, courage, and good luck. The phoenix is an auspicious symbol of nobility, good fortune, and peace. Believed to rise anew from its own ashes, it also represents rebirth, renewal, and the resilience to begin again.
Kyo or Kiyomizu pottery looks back on 400 years history, and is now a symbol of Kyoto.
